Regional Description: Riding in Alabama (AL)
The state of Alabama has a number of state parks, which also act under the name "Alabama State Parks". There horseback riders will find possibilities if the riders want to do horse riding or trail riding with horses. Alabama is the thirtieth largest state in the United States and is located in the south of the country. The state is bordered on the south by Florida and on a narrow piece of the sea. To the west the next state is Mississippi, Georgia on the east side and to the north is Tennessee the next state.
Alabama has a very warm, subtropical climate with an average temperature of around 18 degrees Celsius, so 64 degrees Fahrenheit. In the southern part of Alabama, on the Gulf of Mexico, the temperatures are slightly higher. In the northern part of Alabama, especially in the Appalachian Mountains in the northeast, it is a little cooler. The landscape to the south is sometimes very sparse and there are also regular cyclones. In the north arises an endless area of horseback riding possibilities for the riders. The parks are located, such as the Oak Mountain State Park, in the immediate vicinity of Birmingham, the largest city in the state of Alabama. Riding trails with 10 to 20 miles are available in these parks. Also to be recommended for riders and horses is the Wind Creek State Park in the area of Lake Martin near Alexander City in Alabama.
A 16-mile bridle path is available for horseback riders with their horses in Lake Guntersville State Park. This route follows a terrain that varies between steep slopes and hilltops. Especially in the southern states of the USA and therefore also Alabama are recommended to carry appropriate amounts of water for riders and horses on trail rides, as a water supply is not guaranteed to go in the park. The parks usually offer little careful infrastructure and especially a few hostels. So horseback riders should be sure to be equiped for camping for their overnight stays. Alabama is home to many plants because the state has a large number of different habitats. This fact makes the trail riding course an experience, because both horseback riders and the horses experience very different landscapes. Particularly horseback riders will encounter frequently pine forests while riding on the trails.
Those wishing to explore particular regions in Alabama with the horse, should visit either the Tennessee Valley, the Appalachian Mountains or the valley of the Appalachian Mountains in upstate view. As a tourist destination the city of Huntsville would be nameable. Huntsville is not really next to the Tennessee River , but is a good base to start in northern Alabama.
